The main objectives of the 5 Fundamentals for indoor Rock Climbing are to develop the basic skills of climbing which is the Key Principles below.  Learning and understanding these foundations and improving your skill with active participation will allow your confidence to build when exploring these further on rock outdoors.

CENTRE OF GRAVITY – keeping weight balanced over your feet

BALANCE – shifting your weight

CLIMB WITH STRAIGHT ARMS – efficiency of movement lifting through your legs rather than pulling through your arms, equaling less energy expelled

EDGING – using climb shoes to edge onto a hold

FLAGGING – handy when all holds are on the same side of body, shifting hips into wall and extending a leg to maintain your centre of gravity

Climbing shoes

 1-2 litres of water minimum
