Point Glorious of Mapleton National Park is 400m above sea level, and located in the absolutely beautiful, stunning Blackall Range with views of the ocean out to Mt Coolum looking all the way up the coast and back to the Hinterland.  This landscape has been created by volcanoes and sculpted by water over millions of years.  Tall open forest grow on poor quality rhyolitc soils derived from a violent volcanic period that began 235 million years ago.  The abseil site is named Rhyolite Bluffs.

From the early 1900s, people began visiting this area for its natural scenery, waterfalls and spectacular views.  It is a secluded location with not many visitors adding to the peacefulness to our time here.  Mapleton Falls became a national park in 1973, before then it was a reserve for recreational and scenic purposes for 38 years.

Point Glorious is the perfect location for school & larger groups, because the carpark brings you directly to our abseil site.  There are toilets, tables in the shade, sitting areas to wait your turn to abseil, all shaded by lush forestry. The scenery is full of scribbly gums and stunning blackbutts at the tree bases.

The cliff lengths start at 35 meters being a great intro site, you will experience a fairly easy to navigate wall but still requires your attention, there is a ledge before completing the last vertical section.  The challenge will be your foot placement as you move over unusual angles in the rock formation.   As we progress through the day, and after having our lunch, the next abseil length increases to 45 meters.  The best part with this site is the overhang and free fall the rest of the way a great challenge and length overall to have plenty of time to enjoy yourself, don’t forget to look around!

I encourage and welcome you to come along and enjoy a spectacular day.
